A natural evolution in good times, our classes combine the physical and philosophical elements of yoga and skateboarding in a fun way so anyone -at any age or skill level- can improve their quality of life, perfecting Breath :: Brains :: Body :: Being
Every session begins, expands, and closes with breathwork to put your nervous system at ease.
Balance mood, behavior and productivity, leveraging the science of neuroplasticity.
Get fit, have fun, and enjoy a newfound sense of strength, coordination, and ease in life.
A quality of life can be measured by the quality of challenges one can safely face, eventually enjoy.
How you get started and how you progress depends on your health, experience with skateboarding or yoga, and your goals. That said, every SK8.YOGA session incorporates these 6 elements – in no particular order
We stretch our minds, bodies, potential, and depth of experience. The key to skating is knowing how to fall; preventing injury, maximizing good times. The same applies to our life and legacy: we succeed as we stretch our capacity for being, knowing, doing, adapting. This is why we stretch ourselves in every way, every day.
You don’t need a skateboard or even a balance board to get started. We have classes and options for any age, fitness, skill level or handicapable needs. Whether, on a freestyle deck, balance board, mountain board, surfboard, penny board or longboard, our feet, seats or even our hands… Skateboard Yoga is about our never ending dance with gravity and time; wielding form, force, and friction in every moment we ride. Anyone, anywhere can practice the art of balance.
Getting ahead of ourselves is dangerous in life, on the board and off. As skaters, we push ourselves and our abilities, but that also means we take the time to slow our roll and let progress happen in it’s own time. We do this more naturally in skating, because we know when we don’t we’re not as likely to stick the trick. Same holds for life. There is a time to move fast, but don’t forget that slowing down increases the quality of the experience, too. (and have you tried doing manuals while riding slow…? super hard, but they make high speed manuals that much easier… and fun!
…our bodies, minds, each other, our families, communities, and -most importantly- our highest-selves. Skaters have always recognized sovereign individuality (diversity & free-will) while being collectively relentless in our pursuit of progress and perfection, on our own terms. Our ability to do so is dependent on the strength of our bodies, minds, and character.
One of the greatest joys of skating is just feeling it. The flow-state is where it’s at. Sensing is a key part of every SK8.YOGA session because it happens at every step and enhances every step. That said, it is important to give time, to slow down enough to JUST sense and feel your body after a trick, a stretch, the session itself… or a hard conversation or bad news. Learning to work with our limits and limitless potential relies on our ability to sense subtle shifts in our body, environment, range of motion or options, strength to pull it off, center of gravity, etc.. Extreme experiences give your brain the data it needs to keep growing and learning and creating powerful life experiences for you to enjoy and grow from. SK8.YOGA was designed to create these extreme experiences in a safe and fun way for beginners and extreme athletes alike.
We celebrate every attempt, clean stick and graceful fall – on and off the board. We celebrate every good breath, stretch, movement, trick, and experience of life; to push the envelope on our ability to become someone greater daily.
